Official documents for Uruguay must be translated in Uruguay by government-approved translators; translations prepared outside the country are not accepted. Therefore, a notarized translation completed abroad should not be considered sufficient.
Usually the entire set is translated: the document itself, seals, apostille, reverse sides, and related annotations. If translation is needed after the apostille, first obtain the appropriate document and certification, then give the complete set to the translator.
Before translation, check the spelling of the name against the passport and the history of surname changes. The translator must not guess the transliteration or conceal discrepancies. It is best to identify errors in dates, names, and numbers before certification, as correcting them later takes additional time.
