Answer

A police clearance certificate is required from the country of birth and from countries where the applicant has lived for more than six months in the past five years. If there are several such countries, a separate document is prepared for each jurisdiction, because one certificate from the country of citizenship does not cover the entire history of residence.

It is important to reconstruct periods of residence in advance: distinguish short trips from actual residence, and verify passports, residence permits, contracts, and work history. If the questionnaire lists one set of periods but the documents show another, additional supporting documentation may be requested.

Each certificate is issued according to the rules of the country of issue, then prepared for Uruguay: with an apostille or legalization, a Spanish translation, and confirmation of its validity period. Ordering documents too early is risky: by the time of the appointment, some certificates may have expired.
