A child needs their own document set for a residencia application, and the birth certificate confirms the parents and family relationship. Before filing, check requirements for an apostille or legalisation, translation, document age and consent from an absent parent.
You may also need the child’s passport and evidence of entry, address, vaccinations and medical records, depending on the stage. The names in the passport and certificate must match or be supported by documents, particularly where parents have different surnames.
A minor’s legal representatives must be involved. If one parent is absent, prepare notarised consent, a power of attorney or a guardianship document. Each child receives a separate case and cédula, even when the family applies together.
