Imported equipment in Uruguay is often more expensive because of duties, VAT, logistics, product classification, market size and warranty costs. The difference is not explained by the seller’s markup alone.
Older comparisons suggest that overseas equipment can cost 20–25% more than in Chile, while some imported goods cost substantially more after all charges. Mercosur membership may favour products with qualifying origin, but it does not make all imports cheap or remove barriers for goods from outside the bloc.
When buying, compare more than the price in an overseas store. Add delivery, taxes, any brokerage fees, warranty, compatibility, keyboard layout, a charger and repairs. A local purchase may cost more on the price tag but be safer in terms of service and returns.
