Renting accommodation in Uruguay. Part 2: Where to look?

There is no single real-estate database in Uruguay. This means no website or agency will give you a complete list of current offers. Every estate agent works with their own pool of properties — sometimes for years — and updates do not happen as quickly as one would like. Even large network agencies usually limit themselves to a finite list and do not search “for the client”.

That is why searching for the “right” home remains your own task.

Market segments and search speed

Speed depends on the budget:

• Economy segment (up to $1,500 for housing with 2–3 bedrooms and a garage).

The search is harder and longer: good options go quickly.

• Middle segment ($1,500–4,000).

There is more choice here; the search becomes more of a “selection” from many offers.

• Premium segment (from $4,000).

Expectations are higher, but there are few offers. Here it is more a matter of taste and precise fit.

An important point: “how much does an apartment cost?”

This question is often asked in forums, but there is no universal answer. Everything depends on your requirements: area, view from the window, furniture, garage and nearby infrastructure.

So instead of spending hours reading other people’s comments, it is better to spend time studying at least one or two of the sites above. This will help you understand the market and real prices faster.
